Three Questions We’d Better Be Asking
We are all exhausted. It is a tough time to be leading God’s people. Ministering by phone and online, not always in person. Worship assembly stress. Opening up, or not, or both. Everybody has an opinion. And they are right. Just ask them. Or listen to them. Everyone is absolutely clear what is faith and what is fear, even when they see things differently.
Masks: of course, or not. “Black Lives Matter” and “black lives matter” are two very different things. Christians and politics: obviously a Christian will vote Republicrat for Joe Trump, unless obviously a real Christian would not vote.
Anger. Arrogance. Ignorance. Violence.
Hatred. Power abuse. Racism.
The church will never be the same. We have to do something.
Or, what a great opportunity to speak hope and light into a dark world. God’s people are under attack, and God’s people should go on the attack against Satan.
So in the midst of all this, leaders should ask themselves three questions:
Do I really believe in God and Jesus? This is an easy answer when things are going just like I want. It’s much harder when everything is in turmoil. But it’s the most important thing to know.
Do I believe the Bible? I hear about more and more people reading their Bible. You have to know what you believe and why, and not wait for someone to explain why God does not say what he really means. Or why what God says is really what he means. Is it God’s word? Is it true? If it is, then read it for yourself.
Which kingdom is really my home? I believe culture and Christianity are always in conflict. We are aliens and strangers in this world. It is much easier to decide how I am going to live when I know which kingdom I represent. You have to decide.
It has really been helpful for me to think through these questions and remind myself where my allegiance lies, what is really true, and who is in charge of this world. It may help you and your people also.
Because God has this.
