Our true identity is not found in a man, or in their roles, titles, jobs, beauty, intelligence, accomplishments, or children. True identity is found in Jesus Christ. Period.
If my salvation were dependent on me, I would never make it. But, thanks be to God, it is dependent on my Lord and Savior who has the authority to forgive sins.
Before we ask people to do more in our churches, we need to make sure that what we are asking them to do creates identity, community, meaning, and purpose.
Sometimes we exalt others for their skill in ministry, whether as great preachers or talented musicians or wonderful prayer leaders, but we end up exalting the person rather than remembering to give thanks to the God who gave those gifts.
Our entire lives do not have to be filled with tasks that others deem important. God is using us daily in small ways, but perhaps there will be a bigger thing later.
My engagement with my work led to more questions, which brought me back to more reflection. The ever-pressing question was, “Where is God in work?”
Rather than rush from one thing to another, healthy churches live with meaning and intentionality, doing what they do with excellence.
These reasons for growth transcend simply being at the right place at the right time.
To take something in one state and transform it into something new: that, to me, is an amazing thing.
